Expansion of Two Natures Collection
Expansion of Two Natures is one of the most personal collections I’ve created to date. This year, I’m celebrating ten years of marriage — a milestone that invited reflection, gratitude, and a desire to translate that experience onto the canvas.
This series of five paintings explores growth through contrast and the many facets of love and partnership. Rather than telling a single story, the collection moves through different emotional tones — anticipation, intimacy, passion, playfulness, and the quiet strength that develops through shared time.
The works are unified by a palette of warm, enveloping hues — burgundy, burnt orange, and coral — softened by pale pinks, beige, and warm whites. I was drawn to colors that feel both sensual and grounded, evoking warmth, closeness, and emotional depth.
The title, Expansion of Two Natures, is inspired by a quote from philosopher Felix Adler:
“Love is the expansion of two natures in such fashion that each includes the other, each is enriched by the other.”
That idea resonates deeply with my experience of partnership — not as sameness, but as contrast, coexistence, and mutual evolution. Over time, opposing energies soften, strengthen, and expand one another.
Together, these paintings reflect on connection, balance, and the ever-shifting landscape of a shared life.
Works from this collection are currently on view at De Galerie Den Haag.
