She Spoke in Flowers: A Painting for Girona’s Temps de Flors

As a new resident of Girona, I am still learning about the beautiful and deeply held traditions of this region. Because we live in the historic center, my neighbors invited me to use one of my paintings to help decorate our glass entryway during Temps de Flors.
As I began thinking about what to create, I looked into the origins of the festival. I learned that Temps de Flors began in 1954 as a small flower exhibition started by Maria Cobarsí Corretger and a small group of devoted flower enthusiasts. Over the decades, it has become something much larger: a tradition that now brings flowers into the streets, courtyards, monuments, and historic spaces of Girona.
What moved me most was Maria’s tenacity. She helped transform a love of flowers into something public, lasting, and deeply woven into the life of the city.
The painting I created is called She Spoke in Flowers. While it is not a literal painting of flowers, it carries the feeling of spring: color, movement, and renewal. It is my small tribute to Maria’s legacy, and to the way a personal passion can grow into something that brings people together year after year.
