The Costa Collection

This new collection of abstract paintings will be released exclusively to my email list on Sept. 19, before debuting in person at Lens & Canvas, Sept. 26–28. After that, the collection will become available to the public here on my site.

I didn’t go to Mallorca looking for inspiration. It was just meant to be a relaxing trip. But I came home so full from the experience that it spilled onto the canvas.

The coastline - Mallorca, Spain

I’ve spent most of my adult life in cities—San Francisco, New York, Denver, Amsterdam—yet I grew up in the countryside, surrounded by rolling hills and grazing cows. Mallorca stirred something in me, a quiet urge to return to nature.

One morning, my partner and I set out on a hike along the island’s dramatic coastline. The path curved through groves of Spanish pines. As we climbed, the views opened up—steep mountainsides falling away to the endless ocean below.

I felt waves of gratitude wash over me. Gratitude for the sun, for the soft ocean breeze, and for the companionship of someone I’ve been walking beside for over a decade.

Walks have always made us feel closer. We’re away from screens and distractions. Just us—sometimes in laughter, sometimes in silence—soaking in the world together.

The Costa Collection grew out of that feeling. At first glance, you’ll notice the palette: Mediterranean blues, warm sandstone, and hints of Spanish pine. But what I hope you feel is the deeper experience behind them: a reverence for the natural world, and an outpouring of gratitude for love and connection.

Each canvas is a reflection of those quiet moments—where the landscape and companionship merge into something timeless. My hope is that they bring the same calm presence into your space, a reminder of the beauty in both nature and human connection.

Candace Alexandres

Candace Alexandres is a contemporary mixed media artist. Her balance of delicate transparencies with bold organic shapes evokes calm introspection. She is captivated by the quite strengh and beautifully imperfect shape of stones, which often appear in her paintings.
